Los Angeles has long been a magnet for the wealthy seeking the luxurious lifestyle of the rich and famous. The city's appeal, over and above the stunning coastline and almost perfect climate, is defined by Hollywood and the surrounding entertainment industry.

Hollywood has played a significant role in the LA luxury real estate market as over the years it has attracted many celebrities, producers, and entertainment executives looking for luxury property. This demand has created several exclusive neighborhoods in LA which we will detail in this article.

However, as local Los Angeles movers, we can say that the allure of these luxury neighborhoods is not just about the celebrities or the magnificent homes. The vibrant cultural scene with world-class dining, luxury hotels, spas, and clubs offers lifestyle options desirable to those who can afford them.

Los Angeles' Wealthiest Enclaves

There is no shortage of luxury developments and exclusive neighborhoods in Los Angeles and we have moved high-end clients to all of them over the years. The list of neighborhoods we have featured below is by no means exhaustive, but merely indicative of the most exclusive and famous LA has to offer.

Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills is probably the most well-known luxurious LA enclave and has been a popular destination for the wealthy since 1914 when the most glamorous Hollywood couple at the time, Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks, bought a home on Summit Drive.

Today famous residents have included Leonardo DiCaprio, Sofia Vergara, Eddie Murphy, Johnny Depp, Jennifer Aniston, Steven Spielberg, Adele, John Legend, Christina Aguilera, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, and Jessica Alba.

Iconic properties in the neighborhood include the Beverly Hills Hotel, Greystone Mansion, and the Beverly Wilshire Hotel (known for the movie "Pretty Woman). When people think about moving to Hollywood, Beverley Hills is likely the first place that springs to mind.

Bel Air

Bel Air is an exclusive neighborhood that has been home to some of the wealthiest LA residents. Probably the second most well-known luxury community after Beverley Hills, Bel Air was also developed early in the 20th century and quickly became famous and desirable for its exclusivity and luxurious real estate.

Notable residents over the years include Elon Musk, Jennifer Aniston, Beyonce, George Lucas, Elizabeth Taylor and Jay-Z. Bel Air is part of the infamous Platinum Triangle in the Los Angeles Westside which is made up of Beverly Hills, Bel-Air, and Holmby Hills.

Pacific Palisades

Pacific Palisades also became a popular residential area in the early 20th century and over the years has maintained its allure with notable residents including Tom Hanks, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Anthony Hopkins, and Reese Witherspoon.

Although this neighborhood has been popular for a long time, it only earned the exclusive label relatively recently. But it's a label that is well deserved with high-end shopping, dining options, and some truly luxurious real estate including postcard-perfect mansions with panoramic ocean views.

Malibu

Malibu

Malibu is a famous beachfront community on the stunning California coastline which can also boast more than its fair share of celebrity residents. It gained popularity in the 1960s initially for artists and musicians but has been home to many celebrities including Julia Roberts, Ellen DeGeneres, Britney Spears, Halle Berry, Brad Pitt, and Cindy Crawford.

The iconic Getty Villa is in Malibu as is the world-famous Carbon Beach. Like other neighborhoods on this list, Malibu offers all the usual luxury shopping and dining options with a mix of upscale brands and local boutiques.

The dining scene in Malibu is heavily influenced by the coastal setting with plenty of high-end seafood restaurants. The most exclusive part of this already exclusive neighborhood is the Malibu Colony gated community.

Hidden Hills

Hidden Hills is an exclusive gated community that was developed in the 1950s and has been home to many celebrities, including Kim Kardashian, Eddie Murphy, and Miley Cyrus.

As a gated community, Hidden Hills does not have a commercial center, but it is located near to many high-end shopping destinations in neighboring communities. The dining options in Hidden Hills are also limited, but again residents can easily access fabulous restaurants in nearby areas.

Holmby Hills

Holmby Hills is another member of the infamous Platinum Triangle in the Los Angeles Westside along with Beverly Hills and Bel Air.

This neighborhood was developed in the 1920s and has been home to many prominent residents over the years including Hugh Hefner, Marilyn Munroe, Burt Reynolds, and Aaron Spelling. One of the world’s most iconic properties, the famous Playboy Mansion, is located here along with the Spelling Manor.
