When determining the cost of your move, the following elements are taken into account:

Labor
The hourly rate for the crew is based on the number of movers and trucks required. We always assign the optimal number of movers to every job in order to minimize cost and maximize productivity. For local moves that originate in New York, the clock starts when the movers arrive at the origin, and ends upon completion of the delivery. For moves that originate in New Jersey, the time starts when the movers arrive at the origin, stops when loading is complete, begins again at the destination, and ends again upon completion of the unload. If there is more than one origin or destination, the time actually take to complete the load or unload is calculated.

Written Binding Estimates
With a Written Binding Estimate, the price we quote is the price you pay! A Written Binding Estimate is the correct legal term for a “flat” or “guaranteed” price, as opposed to an hourly estimate. A WBE is based on a firm, agreed upon inventory of goods to be moved and services to be provided.

Packing/Unpacking
The services of packing and unpacking are performed at the same hourly rate as the move. You are only charged the straight hourly rate for all labor services, there is no surcharge while they are packing and/or unpacking.

Basic Disassembly/Reassembly
The services of basic disassembly and re-assembly of items such as bed frames are performed at the same hourly rate as the move. You are only charged the straight hourly rate for all labor services, there is no surcharge for disassembling or re-assembling basic items.

Advanced Disassembly/Reassembly
Disassembly and reassembly of items such as sofas, built-ins, armoires and some wall units is completed by our furniture specialist. There is an extra charge for these services (please speak to your project manager should you require such services as an Oz Moving & Storage representative may need to view the items prior to the move to estimate the cost and work required).

Trucks
The hourly rate quoted will include the manpower and vehicles. All Oz Moving & Storage vehicles are custom, state-of-the-art air ride vehicles with lift gates and GPS tracking & navigation systems.

Travel Time/Portal to Portal Time
For local moves that originate in New York, under New York State law, travel time considers the time it takes to travel to and from the job site. Oz Moving & Storage charges by zone (minimum ½ hour for moves within Manhattan; one hour and up outside of the city. For local moves that originate in New Jersey, “Portal to Portal” time considers the total mileage traveled to the origin, from the origin to the destination, and back to the dispatch. The time is based on the total mileage traveled (minimum ½ hour).

Boxes and Packing Materials
Boxes and packing materials are charged as used. If you are packed up and ready to go, or provide your own adequate boxes and materials, you will not incur the additional expense. In the event an item, such as a glass or marble table top or glass doors, requires a cardboard crate, the foreman will advise you of the cost and the crate will be made on the spot. You will only be charged for actual materials used. Also, Oz Moving & Storage does not accept any goods in paper or plastic bags; all loose items, including televisions, electronics, lamps, pictures and mirrors must be boxed for safety and will not be carried loosely.

Custom Wood Crates
Art, antiques and some marble pieces may require (or you may request) a custom wood crate to be built. The crates must be designed and built in advance of the move, so please notify your project manager in advance.

Plasma & LCD “Flat Screen” TVs
Oz Moving & Storage uses specialized flat panel television carriers to safeguard plasma and LCD flat screen televisions. There is a rental fee of $50.00 for the use of a carrier. Cardboard Plasma TV Boxes are as well available for purchase ($30.00).

Insurance/Valuation

Oz Moving & Storage maintains general liability insurance cover in excess of $5,000,000, as well as Workers Compensation and Disability insurance. This allows us access to every residential building in the tri-state area.

Although the very best care will be taken when handling your belongings, accidental damage is sometimes inevitable given the nature of this business. On the day of the move, additional valuation coverage is available for shipments valued at $50,000 or less, containing no art/antiques/individual item valued at $5,000 or more. In the event your shipment is worth more than $50,000 and/or contains art/antiques/individual item valued at $5,000 or more, please notify your project manager immediately for full replacement insurance options. Full replacement value insurance must be purchased in advance of the move day.

For local hourly rate moves that originate in New York, under New York State law the minimum valuation provided by the mover at no cost to the shipper is $.30 cents per pound per article. This means the shipper (customer), regardless of the actual value, declares a maximum value of the goods $.30 cents per pound per article, pays nothing, and in the event of a loss, will recover a maximum of $.30 per pound based on the weight of the lost or damaged item. Written Binding Estimates include $.60 cents per pound valuation at no additional charge. Additional valuation is available on the day of the move at a cost of $5 per $1000 based on the value of the entire shipment (up to $50,000, no art/antiques/$5,000+ valued items)

For local hourly rate moves that originate in New Jersey, under New Jersey State law the minimum valuation provided by the mover at no cost to the shipper is $.60 cents per pound per article. This means the shipper (customer), regardless of the actual value, declares a maximum value of the goods $.60 cents per pound per article, pays nothing, and in the event of a loss, will recover a maximum of $.60 per pound based on the weight of the lost or damaged item. Additional valuation is available on the day of the move at a cost of $7 per $1000 based on the declared value of either individual items or the entire shipment (up to $50,000, no art/antiques/$5,000+ valued items). Additional valuation in New York may only be purchased based on the value of the entire shipment, whereas in New Jersey, the client may purchase additional valuation for only specific items while declaring the remainder of the shipment at $.60 per pound per article.
